The Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Jr. Scholarship is a named need-based scholarship that was established to provide scholarships to up to three incoming students from Ensworth School in Nashville, Tennessee.
The scholarship is renewable for up to four years as long as the recipient is making progress toward a degree.
To be considered, Ensworth School seniors should apply for admission to WashU. No separate application for the Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Jr. Scholarship is required. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need.
Summer Stipend
Once enrolled at WashU, each Frist Scholar may apply through The Career Center for a $5,000 stipend (each summer) to fund summer opportunities, such as internships or similar experiences, for the summers after their first, sophomore, and junior years.
Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Jr.
Dr. Frist, a co-founder of Hospital Corporation of America (today known simply as HCA, Inc.), received his medical degree from WashU in 1965. Education has always been especially important to Dr. Frist and his family. It is his hope that this scholarship will serve as further encouragement for students at the Ensworth School to attend WashU, widely considered one of America’s leading teaching and research universities.
