WashU offers scholarships for students transferring from the St. Louis Community College system.
Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholarship
Each year, the WashU Women’s Society sponsors a small number of two-year, full-tuition scholarships for students transferring from the St. Louis Community College system. Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholars will also receive an Ida H. Early Startup Grant, which will provide up to $2,000 for indirect educational expenses such as housing supplies, books, and other expenses to assist with their transition as a first-year student at WashU.
Eligibility
You will be automatically considered for the scholarship if you meet the following criteria:
- Have a record of high academic achievement
- Be in the process of completing 60 transferable credit hours from St. Louis Community College
To apply
Submit a complete application for fall 2026 transfer admission as a full-time student by the application deadline.
Interviews for finalists
In late March or early April of each year, we will interview finalists and also consider the following:
- Level of commitment to academic achievement
- Enthusiasm for learning
- Clarity of goals—short- and long-term
- Potential for leadership
- Dedication to community service
Deadlines
All applications must be completed by March 2, 2026. Scholars will be notified in April.
Ida H. Early Startup Grant
The Ida H. Early Startup Grant was created to help transfer students from the St. Louis Community College system transition to WashU. Recipients receive a one-time grant of up to $2,000 for indirect educational expenses such as housing supplies, books, and other expenses to assist with their transition as a first-year student at WashU.

How do I receive my startup grant funds?
Startup grant recipients will receive their funds through a bank direct deposit or by check. Each student will need to set up direct deposit through Workday or pick up their check from Student Financial Services once on campus.
