WashU accepts Schoolhouse.world certifications and Dialogues portfolios.

Schoolhouse.world is a free, globally available platform founded by Sal Khan of Khan Academy.

Certifications

Schoolhouse certifications allow students to demonstrate subject mastery and tutor others in calculus, physics, and other STEM courses.

Applicants to WashU are welcome to submit Schoolhouse certifications as an optional supplement to their application. Certifications can be a great opportunity for students who wish to learn or show competencies in subjects not offered as part of their school curriculum.

For students applying to McKelvey School of Engineering, Olin Business School, or the College of Architecture in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, verified mastery of the Schoolhouse Calculus or Physics curriculum satisfies WashU’s strong recommendation for completion of one or both of these subjects in high school.

If you have Schoolhouse certifications that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee, simply log in to the WashU Pathway and submit the form. We encourage you to submit a single PDF once all of your certifications are complete.

Dialogues

Schoolhouse.world now offers the Dialogues program, where students can learn to engage in civil, thoughtful discussion on a variety of topics with peers around the globe whose perspectives or experiences may differ.

Interested students can participate in two ways: through one-one-one conversations with another student on the topic of their choosing, or through a Dialogues Club that meets every two weeks to explore a new subject.

By participating in Dialogue conversations and clubs, students build a Dialogues portfolio highlighting how these conversations have helped them develop their communication and critical thinking skills.

WashU will consider this optional portfolio as part of your application for admission alongside your extracurricular activities or other involvements outside of the classroom. Submission of a Dialogues portfolio provides the Admission Committee with information about how you might engage in our community.

Applicants will submit their Dialogue portfolios to WashU through their Schoolhouse.world account.
